Things That Hurt
Aug. 2nd, 2007 01:32 amMmmm... my hernia has been acting up for about a week and the last couple of days my arm has been as well.
Usually, the worst my hernia throws at me is extreme acid reflux (I have it constantly, but sometimes it's worse than others), but occasionally the muscles around the flap between my esophogus and my stomach (which has a name but I can never remember it) seize up. Like a charlie horse in my esophogus; it's rediculously painful, and when it happens all I can do to relieve it even a bit is take massive doses of painkillers, muscle relaxants and anti-acid tablets, and they lie flat on my back with my arms straight out from my sides.
And because it's not like a regular muscle spasm in a leg or whatever, I can't just walk it off so when it does happen it tends to go on for hours. Then it hurts to eat because my esophogus is all sore from it for days after that.
I've had it seize up twice in the last nine days... I should talk to my doctor about it, I guess, in case it's something serious...
My arm is somewhat similar; about five times a year, in my right arm, from my elbow to my collar bone, it'll randomly feel like the veins are blocked up or something. It just throbs, and hurts so much that it'll actually wake me up at night (so will the hernia thing, actually), and the same as with the other, all I can do is take huge amounts of painkillers and ride it out, lie on my back or my side with my arm stretched way out. Sometimes it helps if I hold my arm above my head.
The problem with the arm thing is that, unlike with my hernia, I really don't know what it is or what's causing it. The first time it happened (about four years ago) I had a momentary spaz where I thought I was having a heart attack until I remembered that's your left arm, not your right. And it's generally connected with heart palpatations; where my heart will literally skip a beat, then beat twice really fast to catch up. That doesn't hurt, but it feels very strange, and I freaked out about that too at first. (Now I'm used to it, because it happens quite often.)
Sounds like it might be serious, right?
Well, I've mentioned it to my doctor before, both the arm and the heart skipping, and she keeps telling me not to worry, it's probably nothing. Palpatations are common (though I have to wonder about the frequency of them in my case), and I "must have leaned on my arm wrong or something".
Thanks Dr K. -___-;
The arm thing will last for hours and hours, but at least when it goes away the muscles don't continue to ache like with the hernia. Still. I think I'll try bringing it up again. Rrgh.
[/health rambling]
EDIT: I should never be allowed to read medical articles. I have every single symptom for THIS, and I already know I have huge cysts. They haven't done a biopsy or anything... and now I've freaked myself out. ><;;
