N.D., The Return

I wrote an N.D. scene for the first time in aaaaaages. <3 For
cimberelly, just stretching my N.D. muscles, I want to write even more in the future!
Hikaru was sitting around the living room, watching television and generally feeling like a whale, when the first twinges began to come. Just little, almost PINCHES at first--ones she was able to shift around and brush off--until the first actual CONTRACTION hit, and basically doubled her over. She yelled for Taiga, who was in the kitchen washing dishes with Hiromi, and when Taiga poked her head into the room, green eyes widened and she hurried to set the plate she was holding down and dry her hands before heading over to crouch in front of Hikaru.
"Is it time?" MONTHS-wise it was about time, but Taiga was just checking.
"How did you do this?!" Hikaru replied in a gasp, "it's just started and the PAIN--"
Taiga hated to tell her currently-wife that it got worse but... "it gets worse. I'm going to call Yuki to watch Hiromi-chan and then we'll get you to the medical wing."
Hikaru just nodded emphatically, clutching at her swollen stomach and rocking back-and-forth in her seat a little. It seemed to help. Taiga went to call Yuki, who chirped that she would be there ASAP--and then also called Josei, because there was NO way she could haul Hikaru all the way to the medical wing by herself. Hikaru wailed in the background of that call and Josei just chuckled and agreed to get there as fast as she could. Meanwhile, Hiromi, eleven-years-old and frankly a little terrified, was peeking around the corner from the kitchen with wide eyes, watching her Papa writhe and rock and looking more than a bit worried for her.
Taiga glanced over toward Hikaru, then made her way over to their daughter and crouched down to smile at her. "It's okay, Hiromi-chan, it's just time for the baby to be born, that's all."
Hiromi was biting on one knuckle anxiously, but looked up at her Mama at the reassurance. "Is Papa gonna be alright?"
"Of course." Taiga pulled her daughter closer and hugged her tight. "We just need to to see the Doctors for a bit. It could take a while, but Yuki-obaachan is going to come keep you company, and when we get back you'll have a new baby sister or brother. How does that sound?"
Hiromi looked up at her, then over to Hikaru before asking; "and Papa won't be hurting anymore?"
"That's right." Taiga smiled and kissed against her hair, "Papa won't be hurting anymore."
Finally Hiromi nodded--"okay"--even as the front door burst inward and Yuki presented herself in the doorway. Her eyes went straight to Hikaru, and she kind of winced to herself, before then hurrying over and extracting Hiromi from her Mama's arms. "Come on, Hiromi," She flashed a smile and mouthed 'good luck' to Taiga as she steered Hiromi toward her bedroom, "show me your drawings, I bet you've done a TON of new ones since I was here last!"
Taiga gave her friend a grateful look, then returned to her currently-wife's side and sat down next to her, taking hold of her hand and giving her something to squeeze on--the same as Hikaru had done for HER, when she had been giving birth to Hiromi what seemed like forever ago. "We're just waiting on Josei-san so she can help me get you to medical." She told Hikaru, wincing when Hikaru squeezed her hand HARD. "Should just be another minute or two..."
Hikaru hissed and grumbled under her breath about Josei being late on purpose, but it wasn't even another minute before the purple-haired Light was pushing backward into the apartment without even knocking--and dragging a wheelchair with her. "Sorry, I went to get this, I thought it'd be easier to--SHIMATTA, Hikaru, you look like HELL!"
"Like you looked so good when you were giving birth to Kenta-kun?" Hikaru came back, voice strained, and attempted to stand to move to the wheelchair when Josei brought it over with limited success. In the end, Taiga AND Josei had to help her to her feet and get her situated in the wheelchair--and that really HAD been a good idea. Taiga didn't know if even the TWO of them could have hauled Hikaru down to the medical wing without it. "Taiga-chan, can you get the door?" Josei asked, and Taiga hurried to comply, letting Josei wheel Hikaru out into the corridor, even as the older Light was saying, "Amai is going to meet us there. She wouldn't miss this for the world."
"I don't need an... a-aaah! ...an AUDIENCE for this, Josei!" Hikaru complained, still squirming and writhing--then doubling over in pain when another contraction it.
Josei had them moving down the hallway at a pretty fast clip, but she was still focused enough to roll her eyes and inform Hikaru; "you and Taiga-chan are the only two who'll be in the DELIVERY ROOM, baka. Well, and the Doctor and Nurse. Don't you remember that from Taiga-chan having Hiromi-chan? Amai and I will just be in the waiting room."
Hikaru wanted to reply, say something witty or snarky, but she was too busy gritting her teeth and counting down from ten. Taiga hurried her steps up beside the wheelchair and reached to take Hikaru's hand again, squeezing firmly. It was only a matter of five minutes to get to the medical wing at the speed Josei had them moving, and as soon as they arrived Doctors and Nurses practically POUNCED on them. Amai was already there, seated in a chair in the waiting room--she must have warned them they were coming. Now, Hikaru was whisked off to a delivery room with Taiga hurrying after...
...and Josei heaved a sigh and dropped into the chair beside Amai. "She's such a drama queen. Was I that bad when I was giving birth to Kenta?"
Amai just smiled, amused. "I think everyone reacts differently. I know *I* cried a lot, before AND after." Then a pause and she glanced sideways at Josei to ask, "Josei-san, where's Rui-san? This doesn't seem like the kind of thing he'd miss."
Rui LOVED kids, particularly babies, and he always got excited when a new one was about to join the fold. Josei chuckled and shook her head. "It was so last minute we didn't have anyone to watch Kenta, so he had to stay home. He'll come by later."
"Who's watching Hiromi-chan?"
"Yuki-chan. Really, I should have just brought Kenta with me and she could have watched them both."
"Hindsight."
"Sou ne."
Over the next four-and-a-bit hours, more people filtered into the waiting room, excited about the impending birth and to meet the new little hoshiko, until the room was full to bursting, everyone chattering amongst themselves anxiously in-and-arround Hikaru's muffled shouts and screams. It was always like this with a new birth in the Palace--always quite the production, even if no one really MEANT it to be.
Finally, just over four-and-a-half hours in, Taiga emerged from the delivery room, wearing a hairnet, a mask and a paper hospital smock. She pulled the mask off and positively beamed at everyone, not the least bit surprised they were there, then announced to the waiting crowd: "It's a healthy, perfect, BOY!" And then, a little breathily, because she was so excited HERSELF, "we're going to call him Taka."
The entire waiting room burst into cheers and applause, and from the back corner, Suta eased her way through the crowd and over to where Taiga was standing. No one had even seen her come in or noticed her there, and this wasn't the kind of thing she would normally ATTEND, but this was TAIGA, and she was one of the few people Suta would go out for. Now, she offered the smallest of smiles and leaned in to bump her forehead against Taiga's, gently, just once.
"Congratulations, Taiga."
"Thank you, Suta-chan. Thank you so much."
"Yuki is going to be upset that she missed it."
"I know." Taiga was still smiling. "Maybe she can be the first to visit Taka-chan, in a few hours."
"Just make sure she doesn't drop him on his head."
"Suta-chan!"
"Just saying..."
Just a kind of chaos scene with Hikaru giving birth to Taka, after Taiga refused to go through that again. XD;;
It's nice to write with these characters again after so long. I guess N.D. truly will never completely die, not if we have anything to say about it! In it's heyday we were writing scenes every day (sometimes every two) and roleplaying like CRAZY and it was SO MUCH FUN. I don't expect to get back to THAT again, exactly, but writing N.D. drabbles again is a good place to be. I love all of these characters SO much...

Date: 2025-03-18 03:38 pm (UTC)And Hiromi-chan! I was just thinking of her today and how Eisei must have confessed to her. I think he's sort of forthcoming about his feelings for Hiromi, though Hiromi never really picked up on his seriousness about them until Eisei's all grown up and just point blank tells her that he likes her in that way (plus forehead kiss because why not? He's tall enough that he can do that comfortably now). I imagine she has a bit of a spaz too like Hikaru did about being older than him, lol. "But he's a BABY, Arashi-chan!" "Not so much anymore, Hiromi-san, ne?" And it'll take a while for her to really digest it and maybe even consider her own feelings for him. Just some Hiromi/Eisei thoughts lol
Aaaah, it's so nice to see you writing for ND again. <3 Thank you so much for this.
EDIT: And I have Mirai scenes because of this entry from you. Enjoy! :D
