Well, there goes my good mood for the day.

NYTimes, the bastion of quality reporting, reported on the gang-rape of an 11 year-old girl in Texas  that's led to charges against 18 high-school boys so far - all well and good so far, right?  Shit like this NEEDS publicity to raise awareness.

Only problem is, they repeated - without refutation or critical commentary - the claims that the girl brought the rape on herself because of the way she was dressed.

Choice Quotes (No cut b/c everyone needs to see this - DEAL.):

“It’s just destroyed our community,” said Sheila Harrison, 48, a hospital worker who says she knows several of the defendants. “These boys have to live with this the rest of their lives.  As opposed to the victim, who's gonna bounce back lickety-fucking-split, right?

Residents in the neighborhood where the abandoned trailer stands — known as the Quarters — said the victim had been visiting various friends there for months. They said she dressed older than her age, wearing makeup and fashions more appropriate to a woman in her 20s. She would hang out with teenage boys at a playground, some said.  TOTALLY BEGGING FOR IT.

THIS IS RAPE CULTURE, PEOPLE.

Now, what's being said and done in this community is bad enough, but the NY Times should be fucking ashamed of themselves right now.

Here's how to contact NYT: )

Yay for being at Grandma's! ...it's very quiet here, and very dark at night with no street lamps or anything. I should be used to it by now, but every time I come here it surprises me. lol.

Mom picked me up at nine this morning to drive up here, and I had a ton of stuff packed up, even though I'm just staying for a week. XD; But most of it was craft stuff (Box of Doom (tm) revisited! The horror!), and I brought fifteen jars of Christmas Jam and a bunch of gelatine and preservatives so I can get Grandma to help me fix it all up. >>;

Then when we got here, we turned right around and got back in the car and drove back the way we'd come to Bracebridge so Grandma could do her shopping and everything; this morning I had it sprung on me that I'm the one doing all the cooking this week, so she was like "get what you want/need" and I went @__@;;

We ended up with a ton of veggies, and 10 quarts of peaches. XDD; I hearts peaches! <3

Then we had lunch at Harvey's, and came back here, and Mom headed home again. It rained off-and-on this afternoon, and we even got some hail for some reason. It's the summer for crying out loud! Ahhh well~

I had a bit of a nap because I was up late last night and then early again this morning to finish getting things ready for Sarah to watch after my animals. I wasn't in AIM much, but I will be tomorrow, dammit! ><;

Then I spent about four hours watching Animal Planet. It's the only channel that I don't get on the sattelite at home that I wish I did, haha. Oh, and we watched the news too... I was so sad to hear about that mine caving in again... to lose rescue workers and not even have everyone that was in the original cave-in rescued before that...

Well.

Oh, and I brought my USB cord to upload photos for my Photoblogging... but it doesn't want to work, wtf. Maybe I'll fiddle with it more later and see if I can fix it. If not I'll post everything when I get back home. :)
