They're In My Eyes
Jun. 4th, 2024 10:20 amI'm going in to have my eyes tested today.
The last time I had them done was almost two years ago and I came out with glasses that had a SUPER strong prescription WITH bifocals because my eyes were so bad... but it turned out that I had a parasitic infection, and HAD had it for some time, and the parasites were EVERYWHERE, including my eyes and brain, and they were affecting my eyesight. Literally within three days of getting my new glasses they were useless because the parasites were continuing to do damage to my eyes.
My Doctor and I got the parasite infection cleared up, though, and my eyesight MOSTLY came back. My middle-distance and long-distance sight are fine, but my close-up vision is permanently shot so I basically need prescription reading glasses? I tried using the "cheater" ones from Walmart and they help a little but don't do the job properly and give me a headache after more than a few minutes.
The problem is that ODSP, apparently, has changed their policy. It used to be that they would cover new glasses every two years, so I've been just DEALING with my eyes being wonky for the last two years, waiting for this summer to come up so I could get new glasses. But when I checked with my worker (just crossing my T's), I was informed that it is now every THREE years for new frames, and new lenses are on a discretionary basis depending on how much the prescription has changed.
Well fuck.
Long story short, the frames I picked out last time are SHIT and WILL NOT stay on my face no matter what I do. I had them adjusted THREE times and they still fall off when I try to wear them. So just getting new lenses in the existing frames is no good, and I can't afford to pay for new frames.
Then the other day when we were out, Mom just up and told me she's buying me new glasses because she was willing to wait two more months but another whole year is too much and she wants me to be able to SEE. Which, yeah, I would like that as well, but this is EXPENSIVE and SHE CAN'T REALLY AFFORD IT EITHER?? But she will NOT be dissuaded, no matter how much I tell her I can manage with the cheater Walmart glasses for another year. So.
Eye exam today. Fun times.
